SEMIFINAL VICTORY LANDS SIDE FC IN CHAMPIONSHIP

Published Jul 4, 2021

TULSA, OK - Side FC 92 and North Texas Legends faced each other in the semifinal tie of the UPSL Premiere Division Central Conference Play-Offs on Saturday.   The home team managed to dictate and control tempo early on.   Side FC 92's wingbacks were often found overlapping into the attacking third.  However, North Texas Legends would find early opportunity on counter attacks, which required some rescue defending from Side FC Centerbacks, Matt Rogers and Perry Brooks.

Side FC 92 would see several opportunities in front of goal go begging in the first 45 minutes.

In the second 45 minutes, after an early counter move was snuffed out by goalkeeper Valin Bodie, The Side began to regain control.  Marcos Moreno and Luke Jeffus both found a rhythm in the midfield, and it was fitting that in minute 51 that John Woodhead would find Moreno on a sneaky run, and an equally sneaky delivery, to put Side FC 92 up 1-0.  About 6 minutes later Miguel Da' Silva would center a ball that was deflected, but Woodhead tracked it and connected on an acrobatic header to provide an insurance goal.

With several first team members still on tour in Italy Side FC 92 demonstrated it's depth in player pool on Saturday.   In fact 11 homegrown players from WSA were featured in the match!

Woodhead was named Man of the Match for his goal and assist.  The total team effort was the highlight of the day.  The boys defended where called, committed to dictating tempo with the ball, and in spite of some missed opportunities, produced enough to land the first-year franchise in the Premier Division Central Conference Championship.

All the best to the squad on Monday in the Championship.  CMON YOU SIDE!
