Seattle, WA-Based Pro Development Team Joins Cascadia Division for Spring Season

February 22, 2021 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Cultures United Football Club as its newest expansion club ahead of the Spring Season.

Based in Seattle, WA, Cultures United FC will begin UPSL play in the Northwest Conference Cascadia Division.

Created in 2020 with the proceeds from a "Pitch for Hope" grant from Chelsea Football Club, the mission of Cultures United FC is to combat all forms of discrimination and build bridges of unity between people of different religious, ethnic, and national backgrounds through soccer.

Cultures United FC previously played in the Western Washington Premier League (WWPL) but now will compete exclusively in the UPSL.

UPSL Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "Growing our base of Washington clubs has been a goal for the league in 2021 and we're excited to welcome Culture United Football Club as the league's newest member. The club has been forged by the mighty Chelsea Football Club and created for the people of Seattle. We're looking forward to seeing their beautiful club crest in the UPSL this Spring Season."

Sebastian Diaz is General Manager of Cultures United FC. A native of Bogata, Colombia, Diaz immigrated to Tacoma, WA, and was awarded the grant in 2018 based upon his propasal for a multi-cultural soccer hub for his adopted home town.

Former Cameroonian internationals Babah Paco and Bobby Pierra, along with fomer Atletico Morelia player Carl King, make up the coaching staff for Cultures United FC. Kirsten Terry-Springs is the club's Wellness, Nutrition & Fitness coach.

Cultures United FC player Deric Avila said, "Cultures United FC is a family where everyone is welcomed. It gives me a chance to give back to my community while doing something I love."

The club will announce its game schedule in the upcoming weeks.

Founded in 2020, Cultures United FC can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
