August 19, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Atletico San Jose FC as its newest Division I member.

Based in San Jose, CA, Atletico San Jose FC will begin UPSL play in the 2021 Spring Season as part of the Wild West Division. The club is finalizing its home venue in compliance with UPSL National Division I standards.

UPSL Wild West Division Manager Will Bumgardner said, "San Jose is a huge market for soccer and I'm very happy that we are able to bring Atletico San Jose to the UPSL and the Wild West Division. Angel has wanted to bring his club to the league for a while and I'm excited to see them finally make it. I'm looking forwatd to seeing his club in action."

Angel Torres is the Owner of Atletico San Jose FC. A renowned former youth goalkeeper, Torres played for Los Gatos Storm, De Anza Force Academy and Central Valley Gunners San Jose. He won a CalNorth State Cup and participated in one U.S. National Youth Team Training.

"I have the goal of building an amateur team from scratch and turning it into a recognized professional club with the will to produce the best youth players in the U.S.," Torres said.

Atletico San Jose FC was created in 2019 and played the '19-'20 Winter Season in Liga Fraternidad in San Francisco, CA. The club now will compete exclusively in the UPSL.

"Joining the UPSL is a great starting point into the next level. It is an honor to be a part of this growing league, which has many strong teams," Torres said. "We're glad to be given this opportunity and we hope to stay for some time. We're here to make our city proud with wins and cups, as well as plenty of goals and excitement at all our games. We will work hard to be ready for the 2021 Spring Season."

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. The UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated.

UPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league's affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
